The world-famous Spanish football club FC Barcelona officially announced a partnership with the Chinese multinational corporation Tencent over cooperative agreements.
FC Barcelona also collaborates in Rocket League made by Psyonix and the eFootball PES made by Konami, the two prominent football titles.
What Does FC Barcelona Seek to Accomplish with this Agreement?
FC Barcelona will indulge in direct correspondence with Tencent regarding its Esports activities as per an official statement. In the coming years, it involves Esports tournaments, skills training in Esports and exchange of industrial sector. It will be in line with an agreement to pursue the various creative prospects among traditional sports and Esports.
The reports suggested earlier this year that FC Barcelona club was planning on joining the League of Legends of China. A joint venture with Tencent might be an excellent approach for making that a reality since it is TJ Sports’ co-ownership. It is also the organization that works with the Riot Games League of Legends Pro League (LPL).
The precise information about the partnership, besides its establishment, has currently not been made available to the public.
The Involvement of Tencent in the Esports Industry
Tencent’s interest in big names in Esports is worthy of mention. It owns 100% of LOL developer Riot Games, 84.3% of Clash Royale developer Supercell, 5% of Rainbow Six Siege developer Ubisoft, 40% of Fortnite developer Epic Games, 11.5% of PUBG developer Bluehole, and 5% of Overwatch developer Activision Blizzard.
Aside from the beginning of the dialogue, the specifics for the entire agreement are unclear. Therefore, it is impossible to judge the whole situation as of yet. However, with news of Barca’s intention to enter Riot Games ownership of the League of Legends and Tencent, it is possible that the ambition of the football club could turn into reality.
Giving words to my passion towards gaming and esports.
